What to Wear

what to wear for family photos

The first thing that most people think when they book a photo session is “What do we wear?”  At least I do.  I know it can be a daunting task to get yourself looking good for photos, let alone you AND other people.  Here are a few tips that might be helpful.

  • Be yourself.  Be comfortable.
  • For couples/families, coordinating and complementary colors look great on-camera, and is a little more modern than everyone wearing the exact same color.  It also allows room for individual personalities to shine through and showcases everyone’s personal style.  Try to avoid logos and large, distracting patterns.
  • Bold colors pop off the screen and look great in images.  Colors can set the tone and can reflect the setting/season, so if you are up for it, coordinate with the season.  Warm colors for Summer and Fall, cool colors for Winter and Spring. Neutrals are great too, and you can add a pop of color with accessories or layers if you want.
  • Layers are a fantastic way to add visual interest to your photos, if the weather is cool enough for layers (and let’s face it, 9-10 months of the year in Seattle it’s cool enough). Accessories are also great to change up looks and make your photos uniquely you.  Think scarves, shoes, jewelry, etc.
