On-Line Photo Session Scheduling Available! | Ballard Family Photographer

golden hour light at discovery park

If you’re one of my people, I know you’re busy. I know you have tons of email coming at you daily and that can be hard to manage, especially when you have to email back and forth to see what time I have available that coincides with your schedule.

I am so happy to announce that I can finally schedule photo sessions on-line! I have been waiting forever for a simple solution, and my client management software just released this feature!

All you have to do is look for the black dates, click on them, and see what’s available! This is a starting point. If you don’t see something on here, you can still email me to see if I have time to fit you into other windows I have. Sometimes I have blocks saved because I’m not sure if I have something else going on, or sometimes it’s just because I’m reserving time to recharge. In general, my schedule is somewhat flexible and I can move those blocks of time around!

Anyway, here is my Fall Calendar!! These spots are available for family, maternity newborn and headshot/branding photography sessions. Start here, reserve a slot, and then I’ll email you to confirm! Let’s get you booked today!

    Fall Mini-Sessions 2019 | Seattle Family Photographer

    You’ve asked and been patient… they’re finally here! It’s Mini-Session time!

    sammamish seattle family photo session

Fall is busy, I get it!

Last-minute planners, have you been waiting for soccer and other fall activities to release their schedules before adding more to your calendar? Me too friends, me too. Now you’re worried about getting photos in time for holiday cards right? Or maybe you want to capture what the kids look like now before another year goes by? Fret not, I am releasing these dates for mini-sessions so you can check one more thing off your list.

    Why a mini-session?

Maybe you’ve already taken photos with me this year, THANK YOU! I know all too well that with the littlest family members, they look and act completely different in half a year. Or maybe you meant to schedule a family session but summer flew by and you don’t know where it went? I’m in the same boat! Summer was TOO short this year! I’m here to help. I get time is a premium in this very full fall season. Let’s get some family photos that reflect who your family is, quickly and painlessly.

What do you get in your mini-session?

Mini-sessions are $325 plus tax. Before the session I’ll send you some tips on what to wear and specifics on where/when to meet. At the session we will get the whole family, a few varying combinations of family members, the kids by themselves, and then before you know it, our time will be up! I’ll edit the photos and put them all up in an online gallery. You will get a gallery of 20+ images to choose your favorite 10 to download. Can’t decide? Not to fear, you can purchase all of the images in the gallery for an additional $100.

    SIGN-UP HERE!

Signing up here will allow you to reserve a slot on my calendar. Once I receive the appointment request, I’ll confirm and send an invoice for you to pay. All mini-sessions are prepaid.

We will take photos unless it is pouring rain. Please try to leave some flexibility in your schedule to allow for time-adjustments for weather, I’ll be in close touch if the forecast looks iffy. Pre-planned make-up dates will be the morning of Sunday, 9/29 for the September minis. October make-up date will be the afternoon/evening of October 26th.

What if a mini-session just isn’t enough time?

How to Take Family Photos when the Weather is Bad Out ~ Seattle In-Home Family Photographer

Okay, so you live in Seattle. Weather is not exactly the best this time of year. Maybe you missed getting photos for your holiday cards. Do not fear! You can still have family photos taken. No one says you have to take family photos in the fall. If you want to take them outside, I’m game. Let’s play chicken with the weather, get bundled up and go outside. We might have to reschedule a few times or you might have to be okay with rainy family photos, but it’ll be an adventure! OR we could take in-home family photos.

      What is In-Home Documentary Photography?

In-home documentary photography is at your house (I know, obvious.). Why is it documentary? Because I come to your home and document your family as you are. I capture your home and your family in your element, where you are most comfortable. I may ask you do the things you are already doing closer to the window, but I will direct as little as possible.

      Why In-Home Photography?

Some children are most comfortable when things are predictable. They like their creature comforts (don’t we all?), and they feel more secure when they are at-home. When I think about my childhood, I remember the saimin (ramen) lunches we had on rainy days, the wagon rides and football tossing we had in the backyard, and the many mornings we spent eating breakfast at the dining table. Our families spend a lot of time at home, why wouldn’t you want to preserve part of your family memories at home?

1st Birthday and New Walker | Edmonds Waterfront Family Photo Session

Last time I saw this family, Hayden was still an infant and Rylee was just getting used to being a big sister. When we met up for photos, Rylee was clearly an old pro, helping with her little sister and patient when she needed to wait for Hayden. We were celebrating Hayden’s first birthday and her newfound walking skills! After a quick wardrobe change because her shoes kept falling off, Hayden had no problem walking and keeping up. She gladly showed off her new mode of transportation with a little assist from mom, dad, and Rylee. Big sister Rylee was still full of spunk, just as I remember from the last time I took school portraits of her, but I was also able to get her more introspective side too.

We were lucky to have the BEST weather for this Edmonds Marina Waterfront Park session. Some sun, some clouds, but overall just a spectacular showing from the Pacific Northwest weather deities. September is a great time to do family photos in Seattle, the weather is still pretty consistent, and not too cold yet. The sun is also still very likely to be present to lend a golden glow to your photos. For morning sessions, you don’t have to wake up too early to catch the best light, and for evening sessions, most little ones can stay up late enough to get close to sunset.

        I’ve found a new love… film-making! ~ Seattle photographer and videographer

Summer has barely started and yet I feel like it is almost done. Anyone else feel that way?

June was jam-packed with a weekend trip to celebrate my best friend’s 40th birthday, normal activities, extra end-of-year activities, a houseguest, and because I needed one more thing to do, I took a film-making course. The course was The Film Workshop by Emily Mitchell of Everyday Films. It was a 4 week, online, self-paced class that taught me to use my DSLR to shoot video and make a film. It started out pretty slow and I wanted to know more, but as our lives got busier, the course information and pace ramped up.

I found that a lot of the principles I am familiar with in photography carried over nicely into film. I also found that lots of what I’m comfortable with in still photography disappeared in film. Like auto-focus. I had to learn to manually focus. On an LCD in the bright sun. Definitely a challenge for someone who is used to looking through the viewfinder or using an LCD to review images in overcast skies. Instead of trying to steady myself and hold still to take an image, I had to learn to steady myself AND move to create visual interest while recording in this new-to-me media format. Throw in trying to record audio that adds to the story you’re creating, trying to expose and choose the proper white balance, and do all of this at the same time was very challenging! Not to mention trying to switch between video and stills because I still wanted some stills of the things we were doing. It was like juggling while riding a bike. Which I can’t do. Yet… but I’m pretty sure I’ll be a far better film-maker than a juggling bike rider. Haha!

We started the month out with a weekend away at a friend’s family lake house at Lake Roesiger. What a treat to stay here with friends! It was a beautiful lake, we had great weather, better company, and the house was fantastic too! I spent most of the weekend playing with video even though we hadn’t really even learned any techniques yet. I am lucky that I had some usable footage at all! It was a good thing we had a nice relaxing weekend because from there, we hopped right into warp speed. Field Day at school, Grandpa’s arrival, dance recital, Father’s Day, swim lessons, preschool graduation/moving up ceremony, my first time second-shooting a wedding and a family session the very next morning, and then the Last Day of School. Throw in a few playdates, a splash park visit, zoo visit, and lots of ice cream, and that was our June. Anyway, I don’t need to keep explaining, you can watch it here! And at the end of the post, a few bonus stills from the same time frame as the video.

        Welcome

        I'm Kellie! I'm so glad you're here.

I have been toting my camera almost everywhere since I was a little girl… and my family and friends have learned to ignore it. But usually I don’t mind them ignoring me. Why? Because I try to capture life as it happens. I see “moments”, and I want to help you have those treasured memories to look back on.
